Team Assessment (Belbin® Team Role)

slika

Many surveys and experience in the organizational environment have indicated that team work consistently outdoes individual work in performance and resolution of high risk tasks, which requires a wide range of additional behaviours.

Dr. Meredith Belbin studied team work and developed a team role model with nine behavioural groups that a person adopts during team work.

Every team member, relative to his/her characteristics, competencies, knowledge and interests, undertakes a specific team role in the field of group management, creativity, work results orientation, analysis and decision making, and/or cultivation of interpersonal relationships. The questionnaire results can be used to check the team roles an individual candidate would prefer to undertake, which would allow him/her to be most successful and give largest contribution to the team.

The performance of the team with the balanced team role structure usually outdoes the performance of the team with the non-balanced structure, even when the latter involves extraordinary individuals.

How to use the Belbin® Team Role?

The Belbin® Team Role is an instrument used to improve individual and team performances. It is applied in more than 40% best companies in Great Britain, the United Nations and a large number of organizations worldwide.

Belbin® Team Role has proved to be a valuable diagnostic and consultative instrument in:

Individual assessment
The individual assessment is an invaluable tool used to increase self-awareness and behavioural preferences.
It indicates those working tasks that are most suitable to the personal working style, that result in the feeling of job fulfilment and satisfaction, and determine the career plan and development.
Job and candidate’s adequacy assessment
The assessment of job requirements provides clearly defined tasks, preferred traits and competencies that a person should have.
It is used for new candidate’s recruitment and selection. The matching of the individual candidate’s profile and job requirements provides information about the candidate’s adequacy for the job under assessment.
Team assessment
The team assessment provides quality team member selection, identification of team members with the most powerful roles, understanding of unique team member forces and the most effective working task allocation.
Understanding of advantages and differences inside the team and knowing how to “use” them affects the team efficiency in the proper way.
